MATE GREEN - LOOSE LEAF TEA

Mate Green is an herbal drink from South America, Argentina. The drink has become increasingly popular around the world due to its many health benefits and long history.

Mate Green is a great choice for those looking for a uplifting as it contains caffeine and many good antioxidants. Mate has an earthy, slightly bitter taste. The drink is brewed like tea.

Mate is produced from yerba mate (ilex paraguariensis) and is often consumed as part of a fasting diet. Traditionally, Mate is drunk from a calabash cup made from pumpkin and sipped through a metal straw, the bombilla.

How to prepare
  • Use one heaped teaspoon of leaves, about 2-3 g, per cup, about 2 dl.
  • Heat the water to 75-80 °C (167-176 °F).
  • Steep for 3-5 minutes, then lift out the leaves.
  • Mate takes several infusions, so keep topping up the same leaves.
